We Are Going Home!

Yeah!!! Yesterday I sat down with Joshua's doctor's and told them my concerns and frustrations...they were wonderful! They listened and answered my questions and explained things to me better (I spoke with the head doctor, otherwise it was interns...which would explain my frustrations). Anyway, one of my big concerns was that he wasn't getting better because his pain didn't seem well managed. Well, the doctor didn't realize that he was on his pain meds round the clock 24/7 instead of as needed, and she understood my concern. So, she changed it to as needed, and although he slept most of the day he was still very active without the pains meds!!! I felt so much more confident that he was ready to go home!!! He did need them at night, we couldn't lay him down to change his diaper because of the pain, but the pain meds helped with that.

So today (at o'dark 30) they took his blood work again...a few hours later they came in and said that his Sed Rate was at 29...he came in at 42, normal is between 0-13. He goes on oral antibiotics at a sed rate of 33 and below and can't stay at the hospital on orals...so, they came in and gave me the news...his PICC Line is coming out and he's going home! I'm thrilled! I was so unsure of how he was doing until yesterday and today. So, God is amazing and has answered prayers because my baby is healing! Please keep praying, he's not done yet! But thank you to all who have kept him in your prayers!!!

A Few Stolen Hours with Kyle

I was able to spend the night at home with Kyle on Friday night! Ryan came to stay with Joshua and I got to go home for a bit. So, I slept in of course, because I'm just always tired, and the next morning, I spent it with Kyle. I asked Kyle what he wanted to do today and he said he just wanted to stay home with me...isn't he sweet? He wanted to sit on the couch and cuddle while watching his favorite show Fireman Sam. So we did! We watched quite a few of them! After that we had on Veggie Tail's Christams music and Kyle was standing next to the CD Player singing along! Then, after awhile, it was time to get going. We had to run two errands before heading to the hospital. One of those errands was to JoAnn's Fabric. I had to get the fabric to make the "sleeve" to cover up Joshua's PICC line. Kyle picked out two fabrics, yes, one had Thomas the Train on it!, and the other one was shadows of fish with colorful bubbles all over it. I picked out one with paws and puppies. We had a good time. Of course Kyle wanted one too, so along with Joshua's new sleeve, Kyle now has one too! If he forgets it, poor guy, his arm starts to hurt and he needs his IV. He's so funny!

Day 12

So I'm in the groove of updating the blog multiple days in a row, then busy stuff happens and I realize it's been a few (or four) days since I've updated anyone! And I left everyone hanging!!! Sorry!

Let's start with the PICC Line...Yes! He got it! It only tood two days and six tries to get it in! The first day they tried it the sedative didn't work, it was supposed to make him drowsy and still...nope, he was playing the whole time! The second time they used something different that was supposed to put him "out" awake and there, but not; make sense? It was supposed to make him really still and kind of in a stuper and unaware...nope! He was alert and ready! But they got it in! So, I don't know...three hours later he was playing with his dad and handed him a present! Guess what it was?! His PICC Line! "Oh My Gosh! Are you kidding me?" you ask.. No, I'm not! Luckily it wasn't all of it, just the end...it took them 45 minutes to repair.

When Ryan told me that, I'm telling you I was going to crash my car because I was certain I was going to have a heart attack! I was so upset! So, I made sure that I brought back a "sleeve" to put over his arm for the rest of the time he will have the PICC Line. Thinking back, I still want to pass out. That little stinker!!!

So, as for the rest, how is Joshua doing? He's doing ok. He looks so much better then he did when we got here and he's happy now, and he wasn't for so long, I missed him! He still can't walk or sit or anything, but he's moving around a lot more. He thinks he can do so much, but really he can't. He can pull himself up to stand every now and then, but doesn't stay up for very long. He'll crawl around too, but mostly he plays on his tummy.

The Doctors see it as a good sign about his movement, and yes, I agree, but only to a certain extent. He was in pain for so long that now that he has pain meds, he feels great! It's a "false" feeling though because the more he moves around in the day, the more pain he is in at night...so really, at night we're back to where we started but sometimes even worse. It's hard to see him hurting so badly! I try to tell the doctors, but I don't know that they are really listening.

I don't know how they are going to check to see if the infection is getting better or not except through the blood test to check his sed rates and just by looking at him. Right now they are saying as soon as they get a home health nurse lined up, but I just don't think he's ready yet...how is he supposed to get home if he can't even sit in his carseat?? So, he's on Tylenol with Codine round the clock, and when he's in more pain he has motrin on top of that (which has the side affect of keeping him up late!). I think he's getting used to the pain meds since he's on them round the clock...longer to take affect and quicker to where off. Sometimes lately we can't even change his diaper because it hurts him to lay down! Poor baby!!

Over all there is progress! Which is good, I just am praying for more answers and better pain control!

Other then that, I am SO ready to go home!!! I miss my Kyle and he missed Joshua and I. He's being such a trooper though, I'm so proud of him. It's not easy for him, but he's handling all of this so well! I was able to take him to see "The Bee Movie" and we had a good time (thank you Sam for coming to watch Joshua!) And he's been able to see Joshua a couple more times at the hospital, but it is usually such bad timing for him because either Joshua is hooked up to his meds or sleeping and can't leave the room, which dissappoints Kyle. I just can't wait for us to all be under the same roof again! All happy and healthy!!

Please remember us in your prayers and I will blurb at you soon!

Will it Work?!

OK! They are going to try to do the PICC Line again within the next 30 minutes!!! Fingers crossed and prayers said, let's see how it goes! They are going to try a different drug today so Joshua won't be moving AT ALL, like he did yesterday and hopefully they will be able to get it in...

Yesterday, since he was moving AND his veins curve, they weren't able to get it in...So, they are going to make him STILL and hope that the veins don't curve so much that they can't get it in...

Hopefully with all of the ways I said it up there, you understood what I was saying...? Yes? I hope...

Happy Day!
